While the essential elements of these engagements are very similar, spiritual counseling is typically designed to support clients over a longer term. Focus areas may include defining one’s personal spirituality, deepening an existing religious faith, or cultivating a renewed sense of meaning, purpose, or connection to a higher power.
Spiritual care, by contrast, is often shorter term and provides support during times of acute need, such as a serious health diagnosis, job loss, grief, or major life transitions.
Rev. James is also available to companion individuals through end-of-life spiritual care while supporting loved ones and family members.
In all situations, Rev. James offers deep listening, compassionate presence, and peaceful space-holding, along with wisdom, prayer, and spiritual practices when helpful.
Not at all. Anyone can benefit from exploring life’s bigger questions, such as what brings purpose, meaning, and resilience to our lives. I am here to support you on your personal journey, and nothing is required other than showing up with honesty and integrity.
While this work may resemble conventional therapy in some ways, with me serving as a compassionate listener and guide on your life journey, my role is to help you view your experiences through a spiritual lens.
This means our sessions may include opportunities to move from head to heart, exploring the deeper truths beneath life’s challenges and transitions. Through this perspective, healing and transformation can unfold.
While I work with individuals from many walks of life, my clients are often in midlife or beyond, navigating changes such as retirement, aging, caregiving, grief, or transitions into eldercare.
No, these services are not covered by insurance. Your first session is complimentary, allowing us to determine whether this work feels like a good fit for you. After that, I offer a sliding scale of $75–$125 per hour.
As an interfaith minister, I support individuals from many faith traditions—or no faith tradition at all. Whether you are religious, spiritual, agnostic, or atheist, you are welcome.
We are all human beings seeking greater peace, joy, and meaning in our lives. That shared humanity is where we begin.
Yes. I have personal experience as a caregiver and have also facilitated caregiver support groups, giving me a deep understanding of the emotional, spiritual, and practical challenges caregivers face.
Sessions are one hour in length. Depending on your needs and circumstances, we may meet weekly, biweekly, or monthly.
